Gayatri Mahayagya leaves cherishable memory

Itanagar, Jan 21: Having been through the 5-day spiritual bonanza of 24 Kundiya Gayatri Mahayagya which was the benchmark of a sustained ignition of the feeling of universal brotherhood much above the mundane day-to-day life and much within the hallow of a heightened spirituality coupled with rituals of psycho-somatic benefits for hundreds of participants, the Haridwar based Shantikunj tolly had bidden a tearful goodbye to the never-seen-before mass gathering at Nyikum Niya ground at Nirjuli today.

This was against the background of the beginning of birth centenary celebration of the Shantikunj mentor Yugpurush Pt Shriram Sharma Acharya, the renowned exponent of Gayatri.

The functions, which had all characteristics of a grand festival, began with Kalas Yatra. This event had a philosophic profile fill up your empty vessel; that is one own self, with the elixir of life. Hundreds of ladies went on small procession to the Dikrong river in between Nirjuli and Doimukh and filled up their respective Kalas (earthen vessel) with water in the secret name of Mother Gayatri. Later, in the pandal a souvenir, Anne Donyi, was released by the organizers. Anne Donyi created deep interest among the gathering. It was in great demand.

The following days functions were marked with Dhyana Yoga, the 24 Kundiya Yagya, Pragya Purana Katha (rendering from the Vedic scripter) which had sent the listeners straight into their soul.

In the Yagya, 24 Kundas (sacred fire place) were lined up in six columns, four Kundas in each, to invoke the omnipresent divine spirit in its different illustrious Godly forms like the sun, the moon, the air, the water, the earth and many other manifestations of God.

The electrifying Gayatri Maha Mantra was chanted relentlessly by the guiding Shantikunj activists and echoed by the participants filling the air with deep, purifying and elevating ripples in the whole atmosphere. It is believed that the smoke going up from the Kundas lit with sacred fire and fueled by various sanctified elements like ghee etc is not only eco-friendly but also can correct the disturbed ecology balance.

The penultimate day of January 20, the day of Basant Panchami was marked by the worship of the Goddess of Learning and Wisdom, Saraswati. The event was attended and enjoyed by a mass of a thousand and more irrespective of their individual religious belief and faith.

On the fifth and the final day of the Yagya, Purnahuti (final and complete deliverance of the intense desire for the welfare of the universe in general and mankind in particular) was offered to Yagani (the sacred fire). Earlier, young spiritual aspirants were formally initiated to Gayatri through mundan, wearing yagyopabita (sacred sanctified threads) and other rituals. The departure of the Shantikunj tolly was marked by thanksgiving note from Dr Hui Tag, the president of the organizing committee and offering of jackets and wood curving of the state bird, hornbill to the honored guests from Shantikunj by Neelam Rani, the committee chairperson and her colleague members. The event stirred up the emotion of love and brotherhood. Many hearts were saddened for such a grand event has come to an end.

Thanks however should go to the members of the Gayatri Pariwar Fraternity, Nirjuli-Doimukh-Ziro for their imaginative initiative to organize such a function so far not seen here in this tribal state. That one of the basic colours of the vibgyor, yellow being the colour of the attire of the participants, can create a wonderful rainbow of a superbly creative sensitivity among those who frequented the Mahayagya pandals for five consecutive days, was to be experienced to believe. The Mahayagya memories will remain to be cherished for long.
